Dr. Ramon Bataller, world-renowned leader in the ALD field is going to discuss with a roundtable panel the current state of Liver Transplantation for Alcohol-associated Hepatitis.

Organizers

	Juan Pablo Arab, Professor of Medicine at the Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile School of Medicine. Trained at the Pontificia Universidad Catolica, Chile and Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN, USA. Dr. Arab is a Transplant Hepatologist and Physician Scientist with interest in translational and clinical research in alcohol-related liver disease and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. He is the Director for Living Donor Liver Transplantation at his institution. He has published more than 100 peer-reviewed papers on gastrointestinal and liver diseases in high-impact factor journals, several book chapters and delivered lectures at national and international meetings. He is the Vice-President of the Chilean Hepatology Association and a member of the Education & Scholarship Committee of the International Liver Transplantation Society (ILTS).
	Roberto Hernandez-Alejandro is Chief of the Division of Transplantation at the University of Rochester (URMC) since August 2016. There, he’s demonstrated his ability to grow a program, leading his team to double the number of organ transplants with the best outcomes in the program’s history. Under his leadership, URMC restarted live donor liver transplants, performing 30 operations over 2.5 years as well as introducing a very active program of donation after cardiac death. Dr. Hernandez is also heavily focused on liver resections and is one of a handful of US surgeons performing the ALPPS procedure. Dr. Hernandez recently opened the second active program on liver transplantation for unresectable colorectal liver metastases in the US. Dr. Hernandez has received multiple grants for innovative research in liver cancer and regeneration and has >100 peer-reviewed publications in HPB and liver transplantation. In 2019, he joined the editorial board of Annals of Surgery, the highest impact factor surgical journal. Dr. Hernandez has positions in many societies, including the Scientific Committee of the ALPPS Registry, Chair of the ILTS Education & Scholarship Committee, and President of the New York Liver Transplant Consortium.
	Rodrigo Zapata is a Professor of Medicine, Universidad del Desarrollo, Santiago, Chile. Transplant hepatologist and chief of Gastroenterology at Clínica Alemana de Santiago. He completed an AASLD clinical Fellowship in Hepatology and Liver Transplantation at the University of Southern California (USC) in 2000-2001. He served as the President of the Chilean Association for the Study of the Liver (2008-2010), President of the Chilean Society of Gastroenterology (2012-2014), and International Member of the Global Guidelines Committee of the WGO (2015-2018). His main clinical interests are in liver transplantation, viral hepatitis, and hepatocellular carcinoma, with > 80 peer-reviewed publications and chapters of textbooks, as author or co-author. Currently, coordinator of the Special Interest Group (SIG) for Liver Transplantation of the ALEH (Asociación Latinoamericana para el Estudio del Hígado).
	Manuel Mendizabal currently works as a hepatologist at the Hepatology and Liver Transplantation Unit of the Austral University Hospital in Buenos Aires. He received his medical degree from Austral University and completed his Internal Medicine residency at the same Institution. He subsequently completed his training in Hepatology and Liver Transplantation at the University of Pennsylvania under the direction of Dr. Rajender Reddy. He is part of the different regional scientific societies, being currently the Secretary of the Latin American Association for the Study of the Liver (ALEH) and the Secretary of the Argentine Society for the Study of Liver (SAHE). His areas of interest are viral hepatitis, acute liver failure, and liver transplantation having more than 90 publications in scientific journals and book chapters.
	Josefina Pagés, MD., is a medical doctor graduated from the Austral University, Argentina in 2010. She completed her Intensive Care residency at the Austral University Hospital and between 2016-2018 she completed her training in Hepatology and Liver Transplantation at the same hospital. She has been a specialist since 2018. In 2019 she served as Chief Resident of the Hepatology and Liver Transplantation service. Since then, she has been working at the Austral Hospital as a staff doctor in the Hepatology and Liver Transplant Unit. Between 2019 and 2020, she completed a Master’s Degree in Clinical Effectiveness with a focus on Health Technology Assessment. She is part of the multiple regional scientific societies and is currently the Argentine representative of the Liver Transplantation interest group and coordinator of the Cirrhosis interest group of the Latin American Association for the Study of the Liver (ALEH). Dr. Pages has a strong academic vocation, her main areas of interest are advanced liver disease, acute liver failure and liver transplantation.

Presenter

Ramón Bataller, MD. PhD (USA). Dr. Bataller is a Professor of Medicine and liver physician-scientist, Chief of Hepatology, Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. His clinical interests include the management of patients with alcoholic and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and critically-ill cirrhotic patients. He has worked the last ten years in a multidisciplinary team to treat patients with alcoholic liver disease. His main research interests include liver fibrosis and the mechanisms and determinants of mortality of alcoholic liver disease. He has mostly performed translational studies including human samples and experimental models of liver disease. Also, he recently started a line of research on global public health aspects of alcoholic liver disease. He is currently the overall PI of a NIH-funded consortium (InTeam) for translational research of alcoholic hepatitis. The main goals of the InTeam consortium are the identification of molecular subtypes and the identification of novel targets for therapy.

Trained as Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology specialist at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. Dr. Díaz is a Clinical Researcher with interest in translational and clinical research in alcohol-related liver disease, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, and liver transplantation. He currently co-leads several multi-national studies regarding alcohol-related liver disease and is the founder of the OMEGA Observatory of Liver Diseases.
	Maria Laura Garrido, MD. (ARG). Medical specialist in internal medicine and hepatology. Hepatologist at Hospital Central Ramón Carrillo, province of San Luis, Argentina. Member of the subcommission of liver disease due to alcohol of the Argentine Society of Hepatology.
